Reduce conflict through visibility, fairness and early de-escalation

Before you begin

What you need

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Strengthen relationships. Know neighbours, establish welfare checks and make rules with the people affected by them.
  2. Remove easy opportunities. Repair doors and lighting, control keys, trim sightlines and avoid advertising stocks or routines.
  3. Use calm contact. Maintain distance, open hands and an exit. Use short sentences, acknowledge emotion and offer limited safe choices.
  4. Bring accountability. Use witnesses, incident logs and two-person handling for fuel, cash or critical inventory.
  5. Leave before pride takes over. Disengage when weapons, intoxication, fixation, crowding or escalating threats appear. Seek official help when available.
  6. Review fairly. Investigate without public accusation. Provide an appeal and change ineffective rules.
